Welcome to Bobland.
Population: Bob

A lifelong passion for design, music, woodworking and vintage style led me to meld my talents and interests into creating finely crafted pieces for audiophiles. I’ve been obsessed with drawing, drumming, design and dovetails since I could first pick up a pencil (or drumstick). A career in advertising & design ran in parallel with stints in assorted bands, as well as many woodworking and remodeling projects. My first Thorens TD-124 plinth was built for an ad agency coworker way back when I didn’t even know what a plinth was. Post advertising, I co-authored a definitive field guide on vintage trailers with a friend, then soon after launched the initial iteration of my woodworking business, which has since evolved into fine woodworking for fine audio.

At Bobland, we like to say, “We don’t make the audio gear you geek out on; we make the audio gear you geek out on look beautiful.”

Testimonials

“I met Bob Thompson during the Covid pandemic, in 2021.  I was looking for a cabinet maker to build me a set of large loudspeaker boxes. The cabinets were big and heavy and somewhat complicated; they required extra thick panels and a somewhat elaborate venting system for the low frequency drivers.  Throughout the process, Bob was patient, flexible, creative and extremely easy to work with.  The final products turned out to be beautiful and sounded glorious.

Since then, Bob has built another set of speaker cabinets and stands for me, some open baffle “enclosures”, bases for a half a dozen transcription turntables (!), decorative trim pieces for amplifiers, and cradles for high frequency loudspeaker horns.  He also helped me touch up some battered speakers I was restoring- in his shop, no less- and then painted them for me.  In every instance, his skilled craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sensitivity shone through.

Over the past few years, it’s been my great pleasure to get to know Bob, so  I’ve been happy to refer friends to him for projects.  Without exception, they have been thrilled with the results.  Although I’m not much of a drinker, I definitely owe him more than a few good pints.”

"First met Bob when researching a new plinth for my Thorens 124. Fast forward 5 years, he has completed numerous projects for both my home audio system and home remodel. From a custom bamboo speaker enclosure for a pair of Altecs to my kitchen cabinets and is now creating a work of art for my Technics SP10 mkII. His attention to detail and craftsmanship is second to none. Plus, it’s quite special when you can trust someone with your high-end audio gear when it’s out of your ownership. He understands that design and aesthetics are equally as important as the functionality of the equipment. Lucky to have found him!"
